Why is it so many of us struggle to get a good night’s sleep? We know sleep is a necessary function for our bodies to stay healthy. It improves our mood, physical health and productivity levels. Here’s three steps to take so you can sleep like a kid again and feel so much better. The number of chemicals we come into contact with on a daily basis is unbelievable. This is especially true for women. Many of those ingredients can have disruptive effects on our body’s natural rhythm. Being well informed when purchasing products for the home or personal care products can have a huge impact on the quality of sleep you are getting each night.

We are on the go all day. At night, we spend time finishing work we brought home. If we have a little downtime, we catch up on Facebook and Instagram, binge watch our favorite TV programs or play that favorite game on the iPad. It’s seems like we are relaxing, but this is not allowing your body to unwind. Taking a warm shower, drinking a calming beverage like an herbal tea or reading a book are ways to signal to your body it’s time for sleep. I use a wonderful shower gel that has a relaxing scent and is chemical free. Try to avoid using any electronic devices for at least thirty minutes before bedtime.

Use calming scents like lavender or cedar wood. Make sure the room is quiet, if you sleep with the television on, that could be disrupting your sleep patterns. Your room should be dark. Research shows that bright light during sleep affects the quality of sleep. Red light is the least disruptive color for sleep so if you have nightlights consider red bulbs and diffusers should be set on red or the light off. Just remember RED for BED.
